The 2018 Sino-German SME Cooperation and Communication Conference (SMEC 2018) will be jointly hosted by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the People’s Government of Shandong Province, and the Chinese Association for Artificial Intelligence.

Focusing on the subject “Gather Intelligence for Innovation, Energize Industries for Future”, this conference provides a platform for experts and professionals in automation and intelligent manufacturing from academia and industry to share ideas and to present the latest scientific and technical advances. The three-day conference trip offers the opportunity to establish valuable cooperations, meet high-ranking government representatives and discover investment options in Jinan.

Introduction to the City of Jinan and the Jinan Innovation Zone

Jinan is the capital of Shandong Province, one of the most populous and innovative provinces in China. Jinan has an area of 8,177km² and a population of 7 million people. The city has good traffic connections with 90 trains per day to Beijing (ride time 1.5 hours) and 60 trains per day to Shanghai (ride time 3.5 hours). Jinan is designated a Comprehensive Pilot City of the Open-Economy-System, a National Service Outsourcing Model City, and a National Famous City in Software Industry. Jinan hosts 43 universities and colleges with 570,000 students. 

The Jinan Innovation Zone is among the first national-level high-tech industrial development zones approved by the State Council in March 1991. The zone occupies 318 km² with five areas and over 400,000 permanent residents. It is host to four leading industries:

  • Electronic information industry accounting for 46% of the total industrial output value,
  • Biomedical industry with over 40% average annual growth rate during the “12th Five-Year Plan” period,
  • Equipment manufacturing industry with prominent advantages in the fields of intelligent manufacturing, power transmission and distribution (PTD) equipment, intelligent robot and special-purpose equipment, as well as
  • Modern service industry: the new growth point, financial enterprises gathering at an increasing speed

Over 20,000 enterprises have been established in the Jinan Innovation Zone, 94 of which are listed, including 21 main-board companies (one on the GEM) and 73 New-Three-Board ones.
